What is the difference between “Acid-Free” and “Archival” framing, and do I really need it?
Acid-Free and Archival Framing
This comes down to how much you value the longevity of the piece.
- Acid-Free: The materials have been treated to a neutral pH. It’s great for posters or decor, but over many years, the acid can eventually return and “burn” (yellow) the paper.
- Archival (Museum Quality): These materials (like 100% cotton rag matboard) are naturally acid-free and will never chemically degrade your art.
